Hyaluronic Acid in Skin Care

Hyaluronic Acid in Skin Care Products
HYALURONIC ACID is the multitasking work horse of any quality skin care product. When we refer to “baby skin” it usually means flawless, smooth, glowing skin… or in other words perfect skin! It is not a surprise that babies’ skin has the highest levels of HYALURONIC ACID. As we age those levels lower as do our skin’s retinol, collagen and elastin levels.

The main function of HYALURONIC ACID is for it’s hydration capabilities. Everybody knows that healthy looking skin means well hydrated skin. It is not enough to just drink 2 gallons of water a day. It is necessary to bind the water and release it only as the cells need it, and this process is where HYALURONIC ACID excels. One gram of this acid can hold water up to 1000 times its own weight. HYALURONIC ACID works in the extracellular matrix and provides not just hydration, but firmness, plumpness and suppleness to our skin. It also works as an antioxidant that helps ward off free radicals that are constantly bombarding our skin from sun exposure, pollution, household chemicals and personal care products that have harmful chemicals.

HYALURONIC ACID is a form of glycosaminoglycan which is just a fancy name for carbohydrate. It’s not widely know but the snow mushroom’s main ingredient is also glycosaminoglycan. Snow mushroom has 3 times more water holding capacity then HYALURONIC ACID. Snow mushroom also has the highest source of vitamin D known to mankind. Vitamin D is important for healthy skin development and mushroom based polysaccharides are linked to boosting immune function in human cells.

The snow mushroom has been used for centuries to hydrate skin. It is only recently that Western Cultures discovered this proven, super hydrating ingredient.

Another interesting fact to note is that Snow mushroom used for cosmetic purposes are cultivated in eco-certified facilities throughout Asia. In contrast, HYALURONIC ACID is obtained by bacterial fermentation in laboratories. What I like about the snow mushroom is that it is stronger than HYALURONIC ACID in water retention, it has the added benefit of vitamin D, it boosts the skin cell’s immune system and it is a safe food grade “SUPERFOOD” ingredient cultivated in eco certified facilities.

HYALURONIC ACID or its natural equivalent from snow mushroom are a necessary part of every quality skin care line. For our NAYELLE PROBIOTIC SKINCARE, we chose this natural, super powered, hydrating snow mushroom ingredient. It is one of the keys in the GRASS principles of selecting quality skincare products. Please explore the NAYELLE website and blog to discover even more of the SUPERFOOD ingredients we use in our skincare line.
